Yak-130 gains a foothold in the Middle East
Friday November 29, 2019 21:01 MSK
At the Dubai Airshow in Dubai (UAE), which opened on November 17, the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) demonstrated the latest Russian aircraft manufacturing programs. So, for the first time at this exhibition, the Yak-130 combat training aircraft is presented in a static parking lot and in the flight program.

Dubai Airshow is one of the largest international aerospace exhibitions. In 2019, it is held for the 16th time. The exhibition is visited by many specialists not only from the Middle East, but also from countries in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.

The Yak-130 aircraft presented at Dubai Airshow aroused great interest among high-ranking guests of the air show and genuine interest among the audience of the air show. “For us, the Middle East is one of the highest priority regions. Here we really have a lot of contacts. We are discussing both the military and civilian components. The main event for us is that we brought the Yak-130 to the air show. This is a well-proven combat training aircraft. This is a universal machine. We represent her here and hope that she will arouse great interest, ”says UAC Director General Yuri Borisovich Slyusar.

The Yak-130 combat trainer provides training for 4+ and 5 generation fighter pilots, including super-manoeuvrable vehicles, built in a large series. At present, 160 Yak-130 aircraft are operated in 6 countries of the world. The aircraft allows you to practice all the tasks of the training course, including the use of precision weapons. The aircraft is equipped with a glass cockpit and a programmable control system. This allows you to change its manoeuvrability characteristics depending on the tasks of training, that is, to adapt to the future type of combat aircraft of the engaged pilot.

“At Dubai Airshow, we are introducing for the first time the launch of a project to deeply modernising the Yak-130. We are significantly expanding its combat capabilities, and it becomes not just a combat training aircraft, but, to a large extent, a combat aircraft with the ability to perform a wide range of tasks. We have customised its combat capabilities to our customers in the Middle East for the tasks they have to solve, ”said Yuri Slyusar.

The essence of these changes has not yet been disclosed to the general public. “The specifics of the market depend on the combat missions that the Air Force of a country solves. We tried to correctly understand all these tasks and offer our customers the product that best meets their needs, ”adds the head of UAC.

However, as you know, the aircraft in its current configuration has considerable combat capabilities. The Yak-130, as a combat support aircraft, is capable of performing typical combat missions with costs 10 times lower than a combat tactical aircraft. Significant combat load - 3 tons at 9 suspension points, a large range of weapons used, including guided air-to-air missiles and adjustable bombs, a hanging container with a GSh-23L cannon and a helmet-mounted target designation system to destroy various air and ground targets.

The aircraft’s capabilities are also evidenced by the fact that at the Aviadarts-2018 international competition in the “Assault Aviation” nomination, Belarusian pilots on the Yak-130 took second place, ahead of specialized attack aircraft. In 2016, the Yak-130 airplane set 9 world records for climb to various heights with and without payload, in the class of aircraft weighing from 6 to 9 tons.
