Eight months after this event, in May 2008, the first test flight of the first prototype of Sukhoi SuperJet 100 was completed.
In spring of 2011, the company Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCA) - the manufacturer of SSJ100, began to supply serial aircraft to the airline.
As of September 2017, there are 105 SSJ100 aircraft in service. In total, since the commencement of commercial operation, they have completed more than 220,000 commercial flights lasting more than 330,000 flight hours.
According to the estimation of PJSC UAC, the total demand in the segment of 100-seat aircraft in the period 2017-2036 could exceed 2,300 aircraft. In the next five years, it is planned to supply about 170-180 aircraft, including business versions, with the expectation of reaching 35-40 aircraft per year
Now Sukhoi SuperJet 100 is operated by Russian airlines and government agencies: Aeroflot, Gazprom Avia, Yakutia, Yamal, IrAero, MOI of Russia, EMERCOM, Russia, Azimut, RusJet, as well as foreign: Interjet (Mexico), CityJet (Ireland) and the Royal Thai Air Force.
As part of the development of the Sukhoi SuperJet 100, a new modern platform has been created. It includes not only the airframe of the aircraft, which has certain aerodynamic and flight characteristics, but also equipment that can be used to develop other types of aircraft. Industrial cooperation was built, technical re-equipment of aviation plants was carried out and new workplaces were created in modern production, new technologies were developed and innovative solutions were introduced.
The SSJ100 is a product that includes the aircraft itself, a sales finance system, crew training, after-sales service. Russian aircraft construction has received unprecedented competencies in the field of creating a new aircraft from scratch, certification, including foreign, sales in a highly competitive market and after-sales service.
Sukhoi SuperJet 100 in many ways was the first.
This is the first Russian aircraft, the starting point of which was the requirements for the product, formed by the leading air carriers of the world.
So, SSJ100 has a number of advantages for both airlines and passengers.
For airlines, this is the rolling-out of new routes to the level of demand at which it would be advisable to put narrow-body airplanes of larger capacity on them; substitution, if necessary, of more capacious narrow-bodied aircraft, operated with low passenger load during periods of seasonal air traffic drops. Segment aircraft replace aircraft of greater capacity both for a long period in the low season, and during the day. The airline, in the presence of larger aircraft in the fleet, can replace them without compromising the comfort of passengers. In addition, the SSJ100 is an active addition to the concept of hubs, which allows the airline to optimise its costs: bringing passengers on a smaller aircraft to the base airport of the airline. And other advantages.
For passengers’ comfort, the SSJ100 is comparable to medium and long-haul aircraft. The cabin height in the central passage is 212 cm, comfortable wide chairs, comparable to those that are usually installed on medium and long-haul aircraft and a wide central passage. Increased living space for each passenger: a large step in the seats in the basic configuration of the SSJ100 to 32 inches allows even high passengers to feel comfortable on board. Large portholes for natural light and better visibility. Spacious and roomy luggage racks of 2 m in length without internal partitions for convenient placement of hand luggage. Spacious toilets, a toilet in the rear service area is adapted for passengers with reduced mobility. In addition, it is equipped with a wide swaddling table. Passengers can be boarded in the SSJ100 either through a conventional gangway or through a tele trap.
The aircraft in record time received a Certificate of the Aviation Register type of the Interstate Aviation Committee, having carried out an unprecedentedly extensive test program: only three years have passed since the first flight in 2008.
The SSJ100 certification campaign included 200 bench, ground and flight test programs, including 25 special test programs in the entire range of expected operating conditions. The flight program comprised 2,594 flying hours in 1,087 flights. During the test flights, the SSJ100 aircraft tested more than 20 airports in Russia, the CIS and Europe, confirming in practice the possibility of successful operation. During the tests, the SSJ100 confirmed compliance with existing and future requirements for noise levels in the field and emission of harmful substances.
The airplane was originally created taking into account the entry to foreign markets, so the Sukhoi SuperJet 100 became the first Russian passenger aircraft certified according to the aviation rules of the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA in the category of "transport aircraft" (passenger). Nevertheless, the first deliveries, and most of them, fell on the Russian market, where the SSJ100 is successfully operated in various regions of the country, in a variety of climatic conditions.
In the production of aircraft used previously not used in the domestic civil aircraft industry technologies, such as no-assembly, automatic docking of airframe units, automatic riveting and a number of others.
Now in the Komsomolsk-on-Amur branch of the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company, where the final assembly of the SSJ100 is carried out, is valid: Technocomplex is a distribution center for components at the production sites of the branch; the fuselage assembly shop, the final assembly of the aircraft and the flight-testing station.
In the final assembly shop, simultaneous work is carried out at seven production sites, four at the fuselage assembly shop and ground tests of the produced aircraft are performed at two sections of the flight test station.
The branch takes full advantage of lean technology. Their application is aimed at increasing the efficiency of production and its planning. At the heart of lean-technologies lie modern techniques, optimisation of the process of purchasing equipment, minimising labor and time costs.
Production facilities of the plant allow producing up to 50 aircraft per year.
For the first time in Russia, in addition to the technical proposal and business plan for the aircraft development project, the concept of after-sales service
Currently, spare parts programs include two packages of services. Basic package (Basic SuperCare Plan) - providing access to the pool, guarantee of delivery and repair of components, maintenance of aircraft components. And Additional Package (SuperCare Plan Option) - providing access to the spare parts exchange fund, maintenance of auxiliary power plant and chassis, engineering support of operation. The warehouses of spare parts for support of operation of SSJ100 are located both in Russia and abroad: Fort Lauderdale (USA) and Munich (Germany). The project partners - PowerJet, the engine manufacturer, opened a warehouse in Moscow to support the operation of the SSJ100. The SCA is considering the possibility of optimising the distribution network of spare parts and increasing the number of spare parts names, which will provide round-the-clock support to operators of this type of aircraft around the world.
The company is in contact with airlines. They express their wishes, and point to places that require special attention from the manufacturer. Collaboration systematically improves both the efficiency and reliability of the SSJ100. Therefore, the SCA constantly implements a program to improve the serviceability of the SSJ100 fleet, which encompasses the entire range of support areas for the operator and consists of an extensive plan for constructive, production, information, and organisational activities, most of which have already been implemented.
The SSJ100 aircraft uses the best modern technologies developed by well-known companies - leaders in the aviation industry.
Economic efficiency in operation and comfort of the cabin at the level of narrow-bodied aircraft are the key advantages of the SSJ100 aircraft, which determine the interest to it from both Russian and foreign airlines. Readiness of the manufacturer - the company Sukhoi Civil Aircraft - to be flexible with regard to the requirements of airlines, as well as a wide range of operational capabilities, allow the SSJ100 to be used in unique European airports with ultra-short strips, in high mountains and hot climates, without losing its capabilities and flights in the Far North of Russia.
Going to meet customers, GCC offers various layouts of the salons, including transformable, depending on the actual needs of the operator.
The JSC Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company was founded in 2000 with the aim of creating and promoting new models of civil aircraft.
