On May 21st 2015 a solemn ceremony dedicated to the opening of the atrium was held at Domodedovo airport; the atrium is the largest object of the type in the Russia’s transport industry. The area of the Eastern part of the airport terminal was increased by more than 6000 square meters.
The unique architectural project was implemented in the network of a program for expansion of the airport’s passenger terminal. The atrium having a height of 22 meters has no analogues in Russia. Prevalence of glass and functional variety of space allow making the most of natural lighting.
The atrium’s area is divided into zones by two levels: the upper floor is intended for departing passengers and the lower one – for arriving passengers; this solution allows passengers to move around the atrium more comfortably.

«Domodedovo airport is successfully implementing a project for development of its infrastructure; one of the project’s most important parts is expansion of the airport terminal. Today we are opening new areas in the international arrivals area: conceptual and architectural solutions of this facility offer the optimal composition of functionality, aesthetic qualities, and above all, they help improve the quality of service,» Igor Borisov noted.
Opening the new areas will help increase the capacity of international flights area, and so it will allow reducing time needed to service passengers at passport control. An average of 1200 more passengers will be able to pass a pre-flight inspection every hour. The total number of passport control booths will be increased from 56 to 80 ones.
Moreover, conference halls, lounges, a new VIP-lounge, restaurants, cafes, fountains, an exhibition area, an observation site facing the airfield, and a veranda overlooking the apron will be constructed in the Eastern segment of Domodedovo airport’s passenger terminal.

The areas opened in the terminal’s international flights area, are one of the stages of reconstruction of the operating segment of the airport terminal, over the last few years Domodedovo airport spent more than 11 billion rubles on implementation of this project.
All the new facilities of the airport terminal are part of architectural project UNDER ONE ROOF — the consolidated terminal under one roof.
