Initially, HeliRussia-2020 was supposed to take place in May, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the exhibition was postponed to September. The festive part began with a bright drum show. To greet and cut the symbolic ribbon, the following took the stage: First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security Vladimir Kozhin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Oleg Bocharov, Acting Head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexei Novgorodov, Head of the Roscosmos State Corporation Dmitry Rogozin, General Director of the Russian Helicopters Holding Andrey Boginsky, President of the Union of Russian Aircraft Manufacturers Boris Aleshin, Chairman of the Board of the Helicopter Industry Association Mikhail Kazachkov, General Director of UTair Aviation Andrey Martirosov.
Vladimir Kozhin read out greetings to the participants and guests of the exhibition from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. “Russia is rightfully considered one of the recognised leaders in the world helicopter industry. Our outstanding compatriots stood at the origins of the industry, created technologies that were ahead of their time and introduced original engineering solutions. The exhibition invariably attracts the attention of specialists, experts and the general public, serves as an authoritative platform for strengthening international cooperation, building up mutually beneficial contracts, and launching promising projects. I am convinced that HeliRussia-2020 will be held at a decent level and will leave bright and positive impressions for the participants and guests,” — the greeting said.
Exposition
In addition to the traditional helicopter technology presented on the Russian market, HeliRussia-2020 was not without new products. Thus, for the first time at the joint stand, the companies-residents of the Skolkovo Foundation presented their promising developments: autonomous drones, convertiplanes, ultralight helicopters and other innovative products. Skolkovo also co-organized the round table "Prospects for the creation and implementation of air taxi projects", which interested aggregators, creators of unmanned and manned vehicles.
The new Russian brand SmartHELI demonstrated flight copies of unmanned helicopter-type aircraft SmartHELI-350 and SmartHELI-400. The devices can conduct operational aerial monitoring of the terrain, control the technical condition of the infrastructure, and also deliver various goods. Also, the design of unmanned helicopters allows the development of mountings for non-standard payload options, which expands the scope of their application.
Russian Helicopter Systems presented a set of medical equipment for domestic medical helicopters Ansat and Mi-8. The modified medical module allows one person to load and unload a patient. It provides end-to-end transportation of the patient without shifting at all stages of evacuation. At the same time, the uninterrupted connection of the vital apparatus is maintained. The second novelty is the infectious transport box, which the RVS helicopters are equipped with. The box isolates the patient in a sealed environment with a recirculated purified air system to prevent contamination of medical and flight personnel.
Russian Helicopters holding presented new options for the Ansat helicopter at HeliRussia 2020. According to the general director of the holding, Andrei Boginsky, in 2020, despite the problems that have arisen in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, the company plans to produce and supply to customers about 170 helicopters - 95 military vehicles and 75-80 civilian ones. Boginsky also said that, in addition to traditional products, negotiations are currently underway with three potential customers for the Ansat helicopter in the Aurus modification (with a representative cabin), which was first demonstrated a year ago at the MAKS-2019 air show. “We have carried out the work, certified the luxury salon, made in the style of the Aurus brand. Now we have three potential customers,” — said Andrey Boginsky.
The Center for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Franco-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry NAUKA INNOV CCI France Russie organised a stand representing French companies and held a joint section "French technologies and a view of the aviation industry 4.0". And Bell Textron Inc. exhibited the newest light single-engine helicopter Bell 505, moreover, at the stand was presented a machine already exported to Russia from the USA and registered in the Russian register.
In addition, UEC-Klimov JSC presented a project of a new VK-650V helicopter engine, which is intended for new light helicopters of Russian design, including the serial Ka-226 and Ansat, as well as the ultralight VRT-500 helicopter, currently located in development.
Contracts
One of the important events of the exhibition was the signing of an agreement between the Russian Helicopters holding and the Polar Airlines. The document presupposes full service support for the operation of Ansat helicopters, which will be supplied to the operator starting from 2021. The airline operates aircraft in the northern regions of Russia, including beyond the Arctic Circle, at extremely low temperatures. Also PJSC "State Transport Leasing Company" (STLC) has signed several agreements and contracts with its customers for the supply of Ansat and Mi-8 helicopters.
JSC UEC-Klimov (part of the United Engine Corporation of the State Corporation Rostec) has signed a life cycle contract with the largest operator of helicopter technology in the Republic of India Sky One Airways. The ceremony was held simultaneously in two countries: Russia and India, the digital agreement was signed online.
The First Flight aerobatic group and OJSC Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant signed a memorandum of strategic partnership. The agreement provides for the supply of Avgas100LL aviation gasoline produced by the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant during 2021. This will allow the aerobatic team to optimise fuel supply costs.
