The opening ceremony of two runways intersection area – the “big cross” – has taken place on the Vnukovo airport’s airfield on June 30th.

A red neckband, symbolizing the completion of work, has been cut in a solemn atmosphere by Deputy Minister of Transport, Valery Okulov, head of Federal Air Transport Agency, Alexander Neradko, CEO of Administration of Civil Airports (airfields), Sergey Polishuk, CEO of Vnukovo airport, Vasiliy Alexandrov, First Deputy Director General of Vnukovo airport, Vitaly Vantsev, and representatives of building organizations Engeocom and Transstroymekhanizatsiya, which have been performing work on reconstruction.

«The reconstruction is not over», - explained Valery Okulov and reminded that runway number 1 will be stretched by 500 meters, its surface will be reconstructed and it will be equipped with lighting facilities. According to the Deputy Minister of Transport, the completion of “big cross” reconstruction will help remove the limitations implemented during reconstruction in Vnukovo. Moreover, Vnukovo airport will be able to take some load off the other airports of Moscow Air Cluster. After finishing his speech, Valery Okulov has awarded the best workers of building firms and Vnukovo Airport with memorable watches and diplomas on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Igor Levitin.

Alexander Neradko, in his own turn, said that all the limitations in Vnukovo airport will be removed since 06.00 July 1st, and the aircraft will perform take-off and landing using all the length of runway-2 (3060 meters). «The construction has been accepted by all the controlling and supervision bodies», - underlined the head of Federal Air Transport Agency.

Sergey Poleshuk has expressed his hope that the work on runway-1 will be carried out with the same effectiveness and operational efficiency along with a high level of interaction.

CEO of Vnukovo Airport, Vasiliy Alexandrov, has congratulated the guests with the 70th anniversary of Vnukovo airport, which has taken place on July 2nd. «It is very symbolic that two significant events have synchronized. I am sure that the completion of “big cross” reconstruction will become the beginning of our new achievements and a special symbol for further development», - he said during his speech.

After the official part of the event, president of Engeocom, Alexey Rudyak, and CEO of Transstroymekhanizatsiya, Boris Sakun, have presented a symbolic key for the “big cross” to the administration of Vnukovo airport.
