New A-Technics MRO hangar in Sheremetyevo
Monday April 19, 2021 17:29 MSK / Roman Gusarov
On April 9th, 2021, a presentation of the new hangar complex of Aeroflot airline took place at Sheremetyevo International Airport, the operator of which is the aircraft maintenance and repair provider A-Technics. This hangar will concentrate heavy maintenance (C-check and higher) of wide-body aircraft.

The hangar with an area of 7210 square meters is located in the area of the northern terminal complex of the airport, and is designed to simultaneously accommodate one wide-body and two narrow-body aircraft.

On the eve of our arrival, the first aircraft, Boeing 777-300ER M. Kutuzov of Aeroflot airline, started the execution of the C-check form. This aircraft will stay here for 32 days, during which A-Technics specialists will perform a large number of detailed inspections - all systems and the airframe of the aircraft will be thoroughly checked.

It should be noted that today A-Technics is the only organization on the territory of Russia and the CIS with competencies in performing heavy forms of maintenance of Boeing 777 and Boeing 747 aircraft. The new hangar can simultaneously serve one wide-body aircraft and two SuperJet 100 aircraft.

The new Aeroflot hangar was built taking into account all the latest technologies and needs of A-Technics for comprehensive aircraft maintenance. In order to certify the hangar complex, three days earlier, the provider successfully passed the audit of the Bermuda Aviation Authority for the compliance of the new production facilities with the requirements of OTAR Part 145.7 Option 2.

Along with this hangar, now A-Technics operates three hangar complexes: two at Sheremetyevo airport and one at the airport in Orenburg. We visited the first hangar, which was previously commissioned at Sheremetyevo, in summer of 2020. Thus, at all A-Technics production facilities, two wide-body and eight narrow-body aircraft can now be serviced simultaneously.

Mikhail Korobovich, General Director of A-Technics: «This is not only the commissioning of a new infrastructure facility at Sheremetyevo Airport, but also an opportunity for us, a maintenance provider, to expand our competencies and start performing forms of maintenance that were not previously performed in Russia. The team of our company has done a lot of work in the preparation and organization of production in the new hangar. In particular, a dock system has been installed, which, together with a telescopic platform, allows access to any point of the aircraft and safely perform maintenance.»

The hangar complex is not only about walls and a roof. There are many engineering systems installed here, and all of them are innovative - created with the latest technology. The newest domestic robotic fire extinguishing system, ventilation and air conditioning system with air recovery, video surveillance and dispatching system - automation of all systems are installed here. At the moment, there is no such system at any complex throughout Russia.

A-Technics is part of the Aeroflot Group. In the near future, the technical provider plans to extend the automated dispatching system to all of its infrastructure facilities, expand its competencies, further develop production facilities and provide services to third-party airlines, which we will try to talk about in our future reports.

And in conclusion, a few words on the current topic of sanitary safety. During the excursion, representatives of the media and the blogosphere were actively interested in the already famous HEPA filters (High-Efficiency Particulate Air filter), which we described in detail in previously published materials. These filters allow passengers to breathe clean and safe air during the flight. Representatives of A-Technics kindly responded to the guests' requests and not only showed the filters themselves, but also talked about their structure and principle of operation.

These filters include three filtration technologies that ensure the quality and safety of air in the passenger cabin of the aircraft is higher than in the operating rooms of the most expensive hospitals in the world. «The HEPA filter is a high-tech element that allows you to trap even the smallest particles like viruses, guaranteeing almost 100% protection for passengers. We are constantly replacing these filters on Aeroflot aircraft according to a specific program, in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements,» - said Pavel Baranov, Head of Quality Control and Quality Assurance at A-Technics.
